Our Mission Statement:
Friends of Bridge Columbia (FOBC) advocates for development of the Columbia Transitway (using the existing transit right-of-way with an extension to Gateway) to provide all Columbia residents with efficient car free access to core destinations including places of employment and facilities for education, entertainment, recreation, shopping, and health services.
We envision an efficient and attractive 21st Century transit system that encourages users by connecting key activity centers between Columbia Gateway and Howard County General Hospital, including the Community College and Blandair Park. This proposed transit corridor should take advantage of rights-of-way planned by Columbia's developers a half century ago for such a transit system, one of which is the route of the current pedestrian and bicycle bridge which connects Downtown Columbia with Oakland Mills.
Collaborate with government and local officials and organizations interested in enhancing mobility options for all Columbia residents by improving and expanding transit to reduce automobile traffic and the associated congestion, parking, and environmental problems.
